Praying for Turkey: the Forgotten Holy Land

Since the failed coup in Turkey against President Recep Erdogan, we are increasingly concerned about the purges that are going on, the arrests, torture and creeping Islamization.

Pray for the church in Turkey!

Pray for women who previously had some freedoms in the secular society that is quickly eroding.

According to numerous sources, thousands of coup prisoners have been raped, starved and hogtied– press photos have been horrendous.

Ancient Bible land of Turkey, sometimes called the “forgotten Holy Land,” is today increasingly under Islamic control.

Many Bible teachers and prophecy watchers believe that current events are preparing for the ominous alliance of Russian and Islamic nations that will come against Israel in the latter days, as envisioned by Ezekiel 38-39.

If that is the case, let us pray for maximum souls to be saved through satellite tv, internet and other means in the window of opportunity that remains.

The current unrest cannot bode well for the Body of Messiah–followers of Jesus are less than 0.1% of the population of 72 million.

Yet Turkey, a land that I dearly love, is the land of St. Paul, Antioch, Ephesus, Galatia and the Seven Churches of the Book of Revelation.

And there are great concerns that one of the most magnificent Christian basilicas, the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, could again be turned into a mosque.

On the last Friday of Ramadan this year, the Muslim call to prayer was sung in the main sanctuary of the Hagia Sophia, setting off alarm bells in the Christian world. This hasn’t happened in more than 80 years.

Built by the Byzantines in the 6th century, Hagia Sophia became a mosque in the 15th century after Constantinople was conquered by the Ottomans under Sultan Mehmed II.

“The first thing he did, by the way, after conquering Constantinople was to go to Hagia Sophia and take an axe and break down the Christian altar there to prove that another faith had taken over,” according to Dr. Paul Maier, author of The Constantine Codex.

On behalf of the body of Messiah in Turkey, church leaders are requesting that we pray Proverbs 11: 11
“By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted….” Proverbs 11:11

They have also requested:

– Pray the Lord will display His love and mercy to the people of Turkey by pouring out His Holy Spirit upon our land, revealing His glory through healings, signs and wonders. [Truly in his love and mercy, the Lord continues to move supernaturally in the Muslim world despite the bad press of the terrorists.

Just yesterday in Jerusalem a Muslim friend of mine who had undergone an ordeal of operation and chemotherapy said that the risen Lord Jesus visited his hospital bedside, held his hand and comforted him.]

– Pray the Lord breaks down the endless disinformation about Messiah, the Bible and Christians that has blinded and hardened hearts in our land. Pray that God redeems the negative memories of history.

–Pray that hearts and eyes are opened to see Jesus as the way, the truth and the life.

–Pray for the Turkish believers who are always on the frontline to walk close to the Lord. Pray for refreshing, emboldening, strengthening, protection and encouragement.

–Pray for more servant-hearted leaders and faithful laborers.

Furthermore, for your prayers on behalf of oppressed women, the Gatestone Institute recently reported that in Turkey the head of a department of the Supreme Court of Appeals has revealed that nearly 3,000 marriages were registered between the victims of sexual abuse, including rape, and their assailants.

The judge mentioned a particular case in which three men kidnapped and raped a girl, then one of them married her, so the sentences for all three men were lifted.

Instead of passing legislation to amend grotesque articles in the penal code, Erdogan prefers “family engineering” in line with his Islamist thinking, according to the Gatestone Institute source.

Most recently Erdogan told a women’s association that “family planning and contraception were not for Muslim families.” In addition, Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdogan, shocked many when she said that Ottoman-era harems were “educational enters that prepared women for life.”

In 2015, Turkey ranked 130th in gender equality among a group of 145 countries and we are not surprised since Erdogan had objected to equality between the sexes as a concept “against nature.”

Jordan, you are also the Promised Land!

I love Jordan and the people of Jordan. I praise God that there is peace between Jordan and Israel.

In our Jerusalem ministry centre, I’m sitting in territory that was once part of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan until 1967 when the Six Day War changed the scenario forever.

Still, Jordan’s capital city of Amman is only 45 miles away. Pray for Jordan’s elections in September.

In fact, intercessors, keep your eyes on Jordan, which currently occupies part of the Holy Land where two and a half tribes of the Israelites settled.

Remember, this is the Year of Jubilee. Things could change overnight, especially since we have passed through the season of the four blood moons– a portent of God moving in biblical prophecy according to Joel 2: 31. The main thing stopping ISIS from entering Jordan is fear of reprisals from Israeli jets.

A Jordanian Facebook friend wrote an opinion piece in Israel HaYom with the headline “If Israel disappears, others will too.”  He wrote brilliantly that since 1948, Arabs have been taught that if they get rid of the Jewish state, ‎everything will go well. And their dictators took full advantage of this idea. But that day didn’t come, and it’s not coming!

As one Jordanian opposition government figure told my friend,  “It seems the fish in ‎the sea aren’t betting on us feeding them the Jews.” ‎

While Israel continues to make stunning medical breakthroughs, “we Arabs developed new execution methods,” such as the Islamic State drowning people in a cage.

“We Arabs have wasted seven decades of our existence waiting Israel’s demise.”

Furthermore, my friend wrote, “It is time to think of the future” but
anti-Semites in the West also want Israel eliminated.

There are countries whose entire foreign policy seems to revolve around opposition to Israel. If these Israel-haters got their wish to see Israel disappear, what would ‎happen?‎

Israel is the only reason Iran does not yet have nuclear weapons.

My friend added, “I regularly visit the West ‎Bank and have interviewed scores of Palestinians there. I can confirm that, as much as they hate ‎Israel, they still openly yearn for the days when they were administered by Israel.

As one Palestinian said, ‎‎”We prayed to God to give us mercy and rid us of Israel; later, we found out that God had ‎given us mercy when Israel was here.”‎

To those Arabs, Muslims and Westerners who wish for Israel to be erased, my friend wisely wrote, “Be careful ‎what you wish for!”

So let us continue to pray the psalm of the decade, Psalm 83:

1 O God, do not remain silent; do not turn a deaf ear,
do not stand aloof, O God.
2 See how your enemies growl, how your foes rear their heads.
3 With cunning they conspire against your people;
they plot against those you cherish.
4“Come,” they say, “let us destroy them as a nation,
so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
5 With one mind they plot together; they form an alliance against you—
6  the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites,…..and the psalm lists all the surrounding Arab/Islamic nations . . . .

16 Cover their faces with shame, Lord, [WHY? and the answer follows:]
so that they will seek your name. [emphasis mine]
18  Verse 18 ends with:
Let them know that you, whose name is the Lord—
that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Amen! That’s exactly the end result of what we are praying: That the surrounding nations and the world will discover the GOD OF ISRAEL, and not the desert god of the jihadists. YHVH is the MOST HIGH God. None is greater than the God of Israel, and no name is higher than the name of Yeshua, God’s anointed. (Psalm 2, Philippians 2:10)

ISIS Crucifies 11 Christian Missionaries, Cuts Fingertips Off 12-Y-O in Front of Preacher-Father Before Killing Them

Islamic State militants in Syria heinously tortured and killed a 12-year-old boy, along with 11 indigenous Christian missionaries, after they refused to leave their homeland or renounce Christ.

According to the Virginia-based Christian Aid Mission, a group that has been in contact with the slain missionaries' director, all 12 victims were captured on Aug. 7 in a village on the outskirts of Aleppo.

Three weeks later, IS militants questioned the captives about whether they converted from Islam when they became Christians, an offense that is punishable by death under the Islamic State's twisted legal code.

The Christian captives were honest and admitted that they were once Muslims.

The IS jihadis demanded the captives reconvert to Islam, but the Christians asserted that they would never renounce their love for Christ.

On Aug. 28, IS militants split the 12 captives into two groups. A group of four, which included the 41-year-old team leader, his 12-year-old son and two other ministry workers, were taken to one village for questioning.

On the same day, the other eight captives were questioned in another village.

In the one village, militants began questioning the ministry workers, the son and the team leader — who had helped establish nine house churches in the area.

After the Christians refused to renounce Christ and explained to the militants that God wanted them to stay in the area to share the Gospel, the four of them were tortured and crucified in front of a crowd. The ministry leader also explained that the four victims were left to die beside signs that identified them as "infidels."

"All were badly brutalized and then crucified," the ministry leader, who had trained all of the workers for the evangelistic ministry, said. "They were left on their crosses for two days. No one was allowed to remove them."

But before the four Christians were crucified, the militants cut the fingertips off the boy and forced his father to watch.

"In front of the team leader and relatives in the crowd, the Islamic extremists cut off the fingertips of the boy and severely beat him, telling his father they would stop the torture only if he, the father, returned to Islam," the Christian Aid Mission report states. "When the team leader refused, relatives said, the ISIS militants also tortured and beat him and the two other ministry workers. The three men and the boy then met their deaths in crucifixion."

The eight other missionaries who were questioned in another village were beheaded after they refused to convert to Islam. Two of the missionaries were women who were 29 and 33 years old. Before the women were beheaded, they were publicly raped and beaten by militants. Throughout their abuse, the women continuously prayed.

When the eight victims were forced to kneel for their beheadings, all eight prayed loudly.

"Villagers said some were praying in the name of Jesus, others said some were praying the Lord's Prayer, and others said some of them lifted their heads to commend their spirits to Jesus," the ministry director explained. "One of the women looked up and seemed to be almost smiling as she said, 'Jesus!'"

After the eight were beheaded, their headless bodies were hung on crosses.

"They kept on praying loudly and sharing Jesus until their last breath," the director said. "They did this in front of the villagers as a testimony for others."

As IS continues to gain control of more areas in Syria, more former Muslims are at risk of being killed and brutalized by the terror group for violating the caliphate's apostasy law.

But according to the ministry director, such threat of persecution is not stopping Muslims from turning to Jesus.

"What is happening is more and more people are being saved," he said. "The ministry is growing and growing. In the past we used to pray to have one person from a Muslim background come to the Lord. Now, there are so many we can barely handle all the work among them."

A group of women arrived at a roadblock in northern Syria, manned by armed members of the Islamic State. No physical security checks were carried out on the group because of a religious ban, and several minutes later, the IS members were hit with a veil of bullets fired from the womens' concealed weapons.

Following the incident, the IS, formerly known as the State of Iraq and Levant, decided to establish a unit of female jihadist fighters for the first time.

The al-Khansa battalion is one of such units - named after Al Khansa, a devout Muslim who dedicated poetry and eulogies to jihad fighters after losing four sons in a war against Persia at the time of the Prophet Mohammed.

In 2012, an anonymous fatwa was distributed, calling for women to join jihad fighters in Syria in their campaign for the country to return to ultra-conservative customs and a broader Islamic caliphate.

Surprisingly, a significant response to the propaganda was noted in Tunisia – to the point where authorities intervened in an attempt to stop the phenomenon.

Many of the al-Khansa female fighters are of Chechen descent, but women from Yemen and Afghanistan have reportedly joined the battalion. The recruitment network is allegedly related to the phenomenon of "black widows" enlisted for suicide attacks.

Some members are believed to have joined in response to the deaths of husbands or other family members, assassinated by the Russian army in Chechnya or at the hands of the US military in Afghanistan.

In the northern Syrian city of Ar-Raqqah or Raqqa, on the north bank of the Euphrates River, Al-Khansa has over 50 women affiliated with IS. According to an IBTimes UK eyewitness, many are wives of immigrants in Syria, of Tunisian, Moroccan, French and British nationalities.

Until fairly recently, the battalion had patrolled the city's streets to pursue women. According to our source, al-Khansa enforced legal marriages to "Mujahidin" - a term used to describe those they see as Muslims who struggle in the path of Allah - prompting the families of female students to leave the city and keep their daughters away from schools.

It was reported earlier this year that women, referred to as "muhajirat" – immigrants in the name of religion – were being recruited by the Islamic State for marriage purposes. But according to reports, sexual abuse is rife.

Some are married with families, but others are young and single, and serve as a potential attraction to manipulate young men interested in siding with the militant rebels.

Yet female fighters for the al-Khansa battalion perform other tasks, including street patrols and public floggings for Sharia crimes. Others are recruited as roadblock guards, or carry out a violent coercion regime against women who fail to adhere to the strict Islamic ideology of IS.

Female fighters joining the IS are yet another setback in the fight for women's rights, specifically in Syria – a country ravaged by a civil war that has killed more than 100,000. The militants continue to advance across the state, with activists stating the group has taken control of several towns in the northern province of Aleppo, a significant expansion for the organisation.

Women played a central role in the Arab Spring when the revolution erupted in Syria in March 2011. Yet three years after the uprisings, hopes that the revolts would bring greater freedom and expanded rights for women have been thwarted by entrenched patriarchal structures and the rise of militant Islamist organisations.

In 2013, a Thomson Reuters Foundation poll of 22 Arab countries showed three out of five states involved in the Arab Spring came last for women's rights, in terms of gender violence, treatment of women in the family, inclusion in politics and economics and reproductive rights.

And with women pledging their support for militant jihadist groups, it seems that improving the status of female Syrians is further away than ever.

A panicked witch-hunt has ensued within the Jihadi ranks after a drone annihilated senior commander Abu Hayjaa al-Tunsi, whose movements within the so-called caliphate were a closely guarded secret.

The scramble to find spies within territory held by ISIS, also known as Daesh, resulted in 38 of its own members being eliminated by the group on suspicion of acting as informants for the US military.

Scores of the twisted terror cell’s fighters that have been slaughtered or imprisoned, as jihadis caught with phones or internet access are punished by their commander’s rampant paranoia.

Many of those killed are mercilessly put to death using the group’s notorious execution methods – including being dropped into tubs of nitric acid.

Meanwhile, even more fighters are making a break for freedom as the barbaric death crazed terror operation turns in on itself.

It comes as Western forces bear down on key ISIS strongholds across Iraq and Syria – leading to a loss of fighters, territory and finances.

Bebars al-Talawy, an opposition activist in Syria who monitors the jihadi group claimed ISIS “commanders don't dare come from Iraq to Syria because they are being liquidated” by airstrikes.

Rami Abdurrahman, who heads the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has claimed that turncoat jihadis are supplying intelligence to Western forces to make money after sustained bombardment from US and Russian forces left the so-called caliphate unable to pay their fighters.

He said: “They have executed dozens of fighters on charges of giving information to the coalition or putting (GPS) chips in order for the aircraft to strike at a specific area.”

The militants have begun to employ tactics to root out spies in their midst – including feeding them false information on the movements of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

The commanders then wait to see if a strike is carried out on the dummy location – showing that their fighter is a spy.

ISIS security forces are also stopping their own militants in the street to inspect their phones, making them call unusual numbers at gunpoint to see if they are linked to Western intelligence.

Last month jihadis murdered 25 Iraqis accused of spying for the government by dissolving them in nitric acid.

Witnesses said the group of 'spies' were tied together with a rope and lowered into a basin filled with the corrosive substance until their bodies began to melt.

A source told Iraqi News: "ISIS terrorist members executed 25 persons in Mosul on charges of spying and collaborating with Iraqi security forces.

"ISIS members tied each person with a rope and lowered him in the tub, which contains nitric acid, until the victims organs dissolve."
