WATER AND DIETING - Water contains no calories, fat, or cholesterol and is low in sodium. It is nature's appetite suppressant, and it helps the body to metabolize fat. Drinking water before your meal is an easy strategy to avoid filling your plate with a second serving. More importantly increasing your drinking water levels can benefit your life in more ways than one.

The Role Of Water In Dieting

Drinking water may be the most important piece to the weight loss puzzle.
Before we learn the role water has in dieting, let us briefly go over the importance of water for our body in general.
Water helps eliminate toxins through urination, carries nutrients to cells and prevents dehydration.
The process of burning calories requires an adequate supply of water in order to function efficiently and water helps the body metabolize and burn fat.
Water plays a major role in how every single cell, tissue and organ in our body operates and is important to almost every bodily function.
Water contains no calories, fat, or cholesterol and is low in sodium. It is nature's appetite suppressant, and it helps the body to metabolize fat.
Current research shows that low water intake yields an increase in fat deposits.
Conversely, high water intake reduces the amount of fat deposits.
Without enough water, the kidneys will not function properly.
As a result, some of their workload is pushed off onto the liver, in turn preventing the liver from operating at peak levels.
How does all this tie into weight loss?
Because metabolizing fat is a primary function of the liver, and because the liver cannot function at peak levels when taking on the added workload from the kidneys, less body fat is metabolized and more is stored.
If the liver does not have sufficient water it cannot reach total productivity and will not metabolize fat efficiently, leading fat to store in the body.
This leads to either weight gain or reaching a plateau of weight loss.
To increase your ability to metabolize fat and lose weight, you should drink plenty of clean water to improve your kidney and liver functions.
Not drinking enough can make you gain weight!
When your body is not getting enough water it holds on to what it has, resulting in water retention.
As a simple survival mechanism your body has a tendency to hold onto and store what it does not think it will get in the future.
Once your body recognizes that it is getting a steady supply of water it will release the water weight it has been holding.
Water weight is stored in your waist, face, and ankles and is released when there is no longer a reason for your body to store it.
How much water should you drink to lose weight?
It is important to get at least eight glasses of water daily or one cup for every 20 pounds of body weight.
For example a 160 pound person who does not exercise or work in hot climates needs 8 cups of water.
If you exercise you need to drink even more water because of all of the water you lose while working out.
To motivate yourself to drink more water fill up a gallon jug or a pitcher with the allotment of water and keep it on your desk at work or home.
This will create a goal for you to complete each day and motivate you as you know you are on the right path to drinking enough water.
It is important to note that these 8 glasses should be pure water and you should not count your morning cup of coffee into the total.
Teas, fruit juices, coffees and all other beverages are mainly comprised of water but it does not count in your daily goal.
Your body needs pure water in order to fully hydrate and rid your body of toxins.
The best indicator that you are drinking enough water is when your urine comes out pale yellow or clear. The darker the color of your urine, the more dehydrated your body is.
A trick to losing weight by drinking water is to have a glass of water before each meal.
This is not only healthy for you, but it will help you control your appetite.
In a most recent study scientists at Virginia Tech monitored a group of overweight men and women on low-calorie diets for three months.
Only half of the group was told to drink two cups of water before every meal.
At the end of the study, the water group had lost an average of 15.5 pounds compared to the other group which only lost an average of 11 pounds.
Drinking water before your meal is an easy strategy to avoid filling your plate with a second serving.
More importantly increasing your drinking water levels can benefit your life in more ways than one.
Water fuels your energy, stamina, and memory leading to a more healthy and happy lifestyle. Get to drinking folks!

- BATHSHEBA'S BATH - The inexplicable element of Bathsheba’s side of this story is why she is on the roof in view of the palace in the first place. According to the story, it just happened that David’s one-night stand with her resulted in pregnancy. How likely is that? . Are we to assume that Bathsheba didn’t know that she was at a fertile time of the month? . Are we to believe that it “just happened”?

Bathsheba’s bath

By Skip Moen
“Now when evening came David arose from his bed and walked around on the roof of the king’s house, and from the roof he saw a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful in appearance.”  (2 Samuel 11:2 NASB)

Bathing – Inexplicable.
.
Oh, did you think that what was strange about this verse was David’s sin?
.
No, there’s a lot more to it than that.
.
First, let’s notice that this verse begins with the same “accidental” wording as the previous verse.
.
Vayhiy (or vayhi’) - and it happened - but for some inexplicable reason, the NASB chooses to render this as “now.”
.
In other words, the accidental engineering is obscured.
.
We don’t see that it is just as odd that David is at home when kings should be at war as it is for him to be on the roof at sundown.
.
But this is just the beginning of our inexplicable verse.
The second element is that fact that David arises from bed at sundown.
.
Oh, yes, the verse says “late in the afternoon,” but the Hebrew is le’et ‘erev.
.
Do you practice ‘erev shabbat? Then you know that this expression is not “late in the afternoon.”
.
It is just those few minutes immediately before and after sundown.
.
This should cause us to ask a few questions.
.
First, why is David in bed before the sun goes down?
.
The text tells us nothing, but perhaps the fact that he is not where he is supposed to be (at battle) has led him to introspection and mental exhaustion.
.
Now he gets up. The sun is just going down. He goes up to the roof. What does he see? A naked woman bathing.
.
Perhaps his already diminished defenses are caught off-guard and instead of looking away, he observes.
.
Understandable? Certainly. But this act also requires some explanation.
.
David has already had at least seventeen other women as wives or consorts. Bathsheba will be number eighteen.
.
So David is not a man of sexual restraint. In fact, sex and politics have been part of his life since his first encounter with Saul.
.
You might review the intrigue of sexual maneuvering surrounding Saul’s daughters and Saul’s wife. David is no stranger to another sexual partner.
.
But in the past, beauty has not been the primary motivator. Politics dominates David’s sexual liaisons.
.
Now (as it happened), something else takes over, something else catches him at a moment when his resistance is low.
.
Inexplicable? Maybe not, if we know a bit of David’s history.
.
The big difference here is that this woman offers no political advantage. And maybe that’s why she is so appealing.
.
Sex with her does not require careful evaluation of inter-dynastic impact.
.
It’s just pleasure and, at this point, pleasure is a nice escape from the trauma of avoiding the responsibilities of a king. Why not just forget about it for one evening?
.
And then there’s Bathsheba. The inexplicable element of Bathsheba’s side of this story is why she is on the roof in view of the palace in the first place.
.
If she is the chaste, innocent victim of a king’s lust, how do we explain her choice to bathe where only the king can observe her?
.
Are we to imagine that this woman of virtue is so naĂŻve that she pays no attention to the fact that someone on the roof of the palace can see her?
.
If she were really the pure woman we want her to be, would we not also be shocked at her exhibitionism?
Inexplicable. Except—
.
What if Bathsheba engineered the event?
.
What if she bathed naked on the roof in order that the king might see?
.
What if it were her purpose to provide enough sexual temptation to a man that she knew had few sexual restraints so that she might advance herself?
.
According to the story, it just happened that David’s one-night stand with her resulted in pregnancy. How likely is that?
.
Are we to assume that Bathsheba didn’t know that she was at a fertile time of the month?
.
Are we to believe that it “just happened”?
.
Or does it make more sense that Bathsheba engineered the circumstances so that she had the greatest potential to bear the son of a king, and thereby become part of the king’s dynasty?
.
How much of this bath was about the baby?

- SWEET SCENT - The spiritual aroma of Christ is sensed by the spiritual condition of those we encounter. For those who are to be saved, new life in Christ carries spiritual vitality. But for those who reject God’s light, the aroma is objectionable.

Sweet Scent

“Thanks be to God, who . . . uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere.” (2 Corinthians 2:14)

Author Rita Snowden tells a delightful story about visiting a small village in Dover, England.
.
Sitting outside a café one afternoon enjoying a cup of tea, she became aware of a beautiful scent.
.
Rita asked a waiter where it was coming from, and was told it was the people she could see passing by.
.
Most of the villagers were employed at a nearby perfume factory. As they walked home, they carried the fragrance that permeated their clothes out into the street.
.
What a beautiful image of the Christian life! As the apostle Paul says, we are the aroma of Christ, spreading His fragrance everywhere (2 Corinthians 2:15).
..
Paul uses the image of a king returning from battle, his soldiers and captives in tow, wafting the smell of celebratory incense in the air, declaring the king’s greatness (v. 14).
.
We spread the aroma of Christ in two ways.
.
First, through our words: telling others about the One who is beautiful.
.
Second, through our lives: doing deeds of Christ-like sacrifice (Ephesians 5:1-2).
.
While not everyone will appreciate the divine fragrance we share, it will bring life to many.
.
Rita Snowden caught a scent and was driven to seek its source.
.
As we follow Jesus we too become permeated with His fragrance, and we carry His aroma into the streets through our words and deeds. — Sheridan Voysey

Lord Jesus, make us carriers and communicators of Your beauty to the people in our homes, offices, and neighborhoods.
.
We are the aroma of Christ to others.
.
INSIGHT: When a Roman general won a significant victory, he would be granted the honor of a triumphal parade in the streets of Rome.
.
Citizens of Rome would line the streets and shout words of praise. Pagan temples would offer up fragrant incense that flooded the parade with sweet-smelling aromas in honor of the event.
.
Paul uses this imagery to stunningly illustrate the spiritual victory of Christ in securing our redemption. Having won the victory over sin and death, Jesus is our triumphant leader.
.
The spiritual aroma of Christ is sensed by the spiritual condition of those we encounter.
.
For those who are to be saved, new life in Christ carries spiritual vitality.
.
But for those who reject God’s light, the aroma is objectionable.
.
What are some ways you can spread the aroma of Christ to others? Dennis Fisher
.
God never calls us to do something for Him that He does not empower us to do if we are willing to do the work and time. Take the time to get to know God in an intimate way.
.
Your purpose on earth is to shine God’s love to a lost and dying world.
.
Open your ears and your heart to the Lord and be excited about your new future serving Him in spirit and truth.
.
God has made it possible for you to know Him and experience an amazing change in your own life.
.
Serve Him.
.
Wait on Him.
.
And expect … for He is able to do much much more than you can ask or imagine.
.
Settle that sin issue ...
.
“Father God, I confess I am a sinner and my sins have separated me from You.
I am truly sorry. I now want to turn away from my past sinful life and live a new life pleasing to You.
Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again.
I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer.
I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Thank You that according to Your Word, I am now born again.
Please send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. I promise to study Your Word – the Bible.
Use me for Your glory.
In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.”
