IS THE “RELIGION OF
PEACE MYTH” FOUND IN THE BIBLE?
The term “The
Religion of Peace” is a political neologism,
a newly coined term created for political purposes. It is not a historic
phrase.
Islam has never considered itself a peaceful
religion. Historically it
has acknowledged Islamic scriptures’ violent prescriptions for family
discipline, capital punishment, and jihad, or armed conquest.
The “Religion of
Peace” myth came into being only after the attacks of September 11, 2001.
At that time,
leaders of non-Muslim nations struggled, for reasons of political correctness,
to avoid calling Islam a religion of terror. They also chose not to admit
that their struggle was against Islam itself. American President George Bush had this to say less than one week
after the 9/11 attack:
The face of terror
is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is
peace. These terrorists don’t represent peace. They represent evil and war.
This imposed
separation of Muslims into two camps, terrorist and “moderate,” has been the
political norm since that day, despite that fact that it is obvious to most
that it is not based on fact.
Polls of Islamic
nations support the view that the number of Muslims in favor of violent jihad
is much larger than just an insignificant minority.
These polls show
anywhere from 30 – 60% of all Muslims admit they favor violent attacks on
the west. The number who support these attacks and don’t admit it is even
higher.
Considering that
Islam numbers its followers in the hundreds of millions, those favoring jihad
is enormous. New Atheism writer Sam Harris made this comic summation of what many
Westerners believe about Islam:
The position of
the Muslim community in the face of all provocations seems to be: Islam is a
religion of peace, and if you say that it isn’t, we will kill you.
What Do the
Scriptures Say?
Now
that we have determined that Islam is the polar opposite of the religion of
peace myth, let’s explore what scripture has to say about it.
In PULVERIZED we learned that Islam will be the Empire of
the Beast and the Fourth Kingdom of Daniel. It will be the political/religious
system that the Antichrist utilizes to dominate the world.
In Daniel 7 and 8
there are several passages that prophesy what this empire will be like. Of
extreme interest as those that associate the Antichrist with peace.
And through his
policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify
himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many. (Daniel
8:25 KJV)
In his place a
despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been
conferred, but he will come in a time of tranquility and
seize the kingdom by intrigue. (Daniel 11:21 NASB)
The Hebrew word
translated “peace” and “tranquility” in these passages is the same
word, shalvah. It carries the meaning of ease, lack of
conflict and complacency. This last meaning is the danger in this type of
“peace.”
In these passages
we see the results of complacency will be conquest and destruction! Proverbs
directly speaks of this same complacency:
When
your dread comes like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind
… the waywardness of the naive will kill them, and the complacency of
fools will destroy them.” (Prov.
1: 27, 32 NASB)
The word
translated complacency is this same word shalvah. Again death and
destruction is result of complacency. Does this sound familiar? Is
complacency in regard to Islam the current policy of the USA and the other
western nations?
Taqiyya
If
you look at the first two passages you will also see this “peace” and
complacency is brought about about by intrigue and “craft.”
Do Muslims have a
history of deceitful dealings in regard to peace treaties? Of course they
do. They even have given this practice of deceitful lying to gain an
advantage over infidels a name, they call it taqiyya.
Muhammad demonstrated this tactic by signing a 10-year treaty with the
Meccans that allowed him access to their city. During this period of
“peace,” he secretly prepared his army for a takeover. Two years
after signing the treaty he attacked, and the very people who had trusted him
at his word were executed.
Yasir Arafat even
publically announced his use of taqiyya. After signing the Oslo Accords in 1993,
he addressed fellow Muslims and explained his actions by saying, “This
agreement, I am not considering it more than the agreement which had been
signed between our prophet Muhammad and Quraysh.” What did this
mean?
The Quraysh were
the tribe Muhammad made the treaty with in Mecca! Arafat was publically
claiming he had deceitfully signed the treaty with every intention to
break the Oslo Accords when the time was right.
Finally, in Surah
3:54, the god of the Muslims, Allah, identifies himself as “Khayrul-Makereen” which translated means “Allah is the
greatest of all deceivers.”
Jesus refers to
this demon-god as “the father of lies” (John 8:44).
These
two passages, one in Islamic scripture and one from the
Word of God, clearly identify Allah as Satan himself. Is it any
wonder those who worship Satan/Allah would lie?
Covenant With
Sheol
The
most famous peace covenant of all time is found in the book of Daniel. The
Antichrist will negotiate a treaty with “the many,’ a treaty he will break
three and a half years later.
The people of the
prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its end shall
come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war.
Desolations are
decreed. And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one
week, and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and
offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate,
until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator. (Daniel
9:26-27 ESV)
This is the
covenant that ushers in the Tribulation. We have written about it
in THE
FIFTH SIGNPOST: THE COVENANT.
The word
translated “make” in this passage actually means to confirm or strengthen a
treaty, so it appears that an existing treaty is in place but the Antichrist
strengthens it.
Those watching for
a new treaty to usher in the Tribulation need to be watching for a
“strengthened” treaty, not necessarily a new one.
The Antichrist
obviously breaks the treaty by attacking Jerusalem (see MIDPOINT
OF THE TRIBULATION: EARTH’S PERSPECTIVE), ending the Jew’s newly established
sacrificial system, and setting up the Abomination of Desolation (See HANUKKAH
AND THE FUTURE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION.)
God warns his
people about signing this treaty with death.
Therefore
hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in
Jerusalem! Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with
death and with Sheol we have an agreement,
when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter.” therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation … Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it. As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message. (Isaiah 28:14-16, 18-19 ESV)
when the overwhelming whip passes through it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have taken shelter.” therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation … Then your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it. As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through by day and by night; and it will be sheer terror to understand the message. (Isaiah 28:14-16, 18-19 ESV)
God is telling His
people he has made a way of security for them thru Jesus, the firm foundation
and precious cornerstone. Yet the Jews will choose the agreement with Sheol
(the grave.)
Because the Jews
will trust the Antichrist’s treaty instead of their Messiah, they will
endure the Great Tribulation and in God’s Words it will be “sheer terror.”
The Religion of
False Peace
Every
time I hear the phrase “The Religion of Peace” I think about the lies and false
peace that Islam promises and Jesus’ words that open the Olivet Discourse, his
95 verse sermon on how to prepare for the end times, “beware that no one leads you astray.” (Matthew
24:4)
How are we to deal
with the “Religion of False Peace?”
Jesus has given us
the answer: overcome evil with good. Be sure to check out this very
