FORTIFIED TOWER - God’s “Name” stands for His power and authority to act. In Him, His people find their fortified tower, well-defended by God our lover and redeemer. In Him, we are truly safe regardless of anything else that may invade our lives.

A FORTIFIED TOWER

Guy Saffold

The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. A rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and like a high wall in his imagination.” Proverbs 18:10-11 (ESV)

The world of the Bible could be divided into the open countryside and fortified cities. People living in the countryside were exposed to the dangers of thieves, roving bandits, and invading armies.
When an alarm was sounded, people would scramble for safety to the fortified cities with their high walls, strong towers, and well-defended gates.
You had to run quickly and get there before the gates were closed.
These verses ask us to reflect on where we find our sense of safety when the hazards of life come upon us.
The “rich man,” Scripture says, trusts in his possessions. For him, possessions provide comfort and protection, security and provision.
Scripture’s judgment is clear: it’s all in his imagination.
Believing that things other than God can make you safe is to buy into an illusion that can be shattered in an instant.
Jesus makes this point about a rich man who trusted in his wealth. “You fool.”
God tells him, “This very night your life will be demanded from you” (Luke 12:20).
The righteous person, however, trusts in God.
In the face of difficulty, trial or danger, they run to God for safety.
In Scripture, God’s “Name” stands for His power and authority to act.
In Him, His people find their fortified tower, well-defended by God our lover and redeemer. In Him, we are truly safe regardless of anything else that may invade our lives.
When difficulty or danger invades your life, where do you run?
Father, I’m sorry for all the “forts” that I have built around me with the illusion that they can offer more protection than You. I am sorry for all the time I’ve relied on my own efforts. Spirit, teach me to be more abandoned to the power of God’s Holy Name. I submit myself to you. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
The strong towers of our imagination have no safety to offer that can compare with what we have in God. Run to Him!

Take refuge behind His gates. Find your place of lasting safety in His powerful name.
It does not matter what the world throws at you. Jesus said we would face trials and tests, but those words are followed by a comma, not a period.
He calls us to face our difficulties with faith. He has already overcome every possible problem we could face. Knowing this will give you supernatural peace.
"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble, and He knows those who take refuge in Him." (Nahum 1:7)
If you are walking through the valley right now because of a death, an accident, a serious medical condition, a financial crisis, the loss of a job or any other tragedy, stand on God's immovable promises and let His words bring security to your soul.
Let God's promises guide you like signal lights through your dark valley.
Are you struggling with a big decision or wondering how your eternal future will play out?
Why not talk to the God of the universe and let Him work in your behalf?
He says, “I will instruct you and teach you the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you" (Psalm 32:8).
Ask God to show you what to do. Pray the following prayer:
“Heavenly Father,
I admit that I am a sinner and my sins have separated me from You. I now want to turn away from my past sinful life and begin a new life with You.
Please forgive me. I now receive your Son, Jesus Christ as my Savior, my Master and my Lord. I believe and confess that Jesus Christ died for my sins, was buried, and rose from the dead.
I want to receive all that Jesus Christ has provided for me as my Savior. Your Word says‘Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved’ (Romans 10:13).
I believe and confess that Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no man comes unto the Father, but by Him.
Lord Jesus, I pray and ask You, to come into my heart and be Lord of my life. I thank You that you have given me eternal life, and according to Your Word, I am born again.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit Who is in me now. I surrender my life to You. I promise to study Your Word – the Bible.
Use me for Your glory.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.”

You Are My
Hiding Place

SELAH

lyrics
You are my hiding place.
You always fill my heart,
With songs of deliverance.
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
I will trust in You.
Let the weak say,
I am strong,
In the strength of the Lord.
You are my hiding place.
You always fill my heart,
With songs of deliverance.
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
I will trust in You.
Let the weak say,
I am strong,
In the strength of the Lord.
I will trust in You.
You are my hiding place.
You always fill my heart,
With songs of deliverance.
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
I will trust in You.
Let the weak say,
I am strong,
In the strength of the Lord.
I will trust in You.
You are my hiding place.
(I will trust in You.)
You always fill my heart,
(Let the weak say,)
With songs of deliverance.
(I am strong, in the strength of the Lord.)
Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You.
