Thankful God Rejoices Over Us
God, our heavenly Father, delights in
us!
We underestimate the joy God has in His
people, and too often think He is annoyed or angry with us.
But God cannot rest in His love for us.
It is beyond measure.
In fact, we give Him so much joy that
He breaks into song! He rejoices over us with gladness. Is this reality not
amazing?
“The Lord your God in your midst, the Might One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He
will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)
“Think
of the great Jehovah singing! Can you imagine it? Is it possible to conceive of
the Deity breaking into a song: Father, Son, and Holy Ghost together singing
over the redeemed? God is so happy in the love which He bears to His people
that He breaks the eternal silence, and sun and moon and stars with
astonishment hear God chanting a hymn of joy.” (Spurgeon)
God not only loves His children, but He
loves to love them. Although He grieves over the sins we commit, He rejoices in
the services we perform in His holy name. He freely expresses His joy by
lifting His voice in song.
Genesis 1 explains how God created the
universe and states that He viewed His work as good (Genesis 1:12, 25).
And after the sixth day, we are told
that God saw all of His work as very good (Genesis
1:31).
“If
God sings, shall not we sing? He did not sing when he made the world. No; He
looked upon it, and simply said that it was good. The angels sang, the sons of
God shouted for joy: creation was very wonderful to them, but it was not much
to God, who could have made thousands of worlds by His mere will. Creation
could not make Him sing … When all was done, and the Lord saw what became of it
in the salvation of His redeemed, then He rejoiced after a divine manner.” (Spurgeon)
It was not until Jesus redeemed mankind
from eternal damnation, conquering sin and death through His victory over the
cross that God celebrated with jubilation.
With exuberance He now rejoices over our
restored relationship with Him.
With a holy fear, we have come to
understand the cost of the cross and the grace He bestowed. Only through the
righteous blood of Jesus Christ are we too, made righteous.
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in
Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2
Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV)
“The LORD takes pleasure in those who
fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy.” Psalm
147:11 (NKJV)
So, to sum things up, consider this
possibility. Could the root of what God delights in us, be that we delight in
Him?
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts
with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” Psalm
100:4 (NKJV)
The true reason to be glad that God
delights in our delight in Him is because it confirms that our delight is truly
in God.
When we fix our gaze on Him, it deepens
our joy in His love, beauty, and grace.
May our hearts ring out with continuous
thanks and praise for the goodness and unfathomable love of our God and blessed
Savior.
“Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips
shall praise You.”
Psalm 63:3 (NKJV)
“The LORD is good to all; He has compassion on all He has
made.”
Psalm 145:9 (NIV)
“Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; His greatness
no one can fathom.”
Psalm 145:3 (NKJV)
“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His
goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies
the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalm
107:8-9 (NKJV)
Would you want to have a deeper
relationship with God?
God
has made it possible for you to know Him and experience an amazing
change in your own life by
receiving His Son, Jesus Christ, and have eternal life.
Say
the following prayer:
“Father
God, I confess I am a sinner and my sins have separated me from You.
I
am truly sorry. I now want to
turn away from my past sinful life and live a new life pleasing to You.
Please
forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again.
I
believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the
dead, is alive, and hears my prayer.
I
invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from
this day forward. Thank You that according to your Word, I am now born again.
Please
send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of
my life. I promise to study Your Word – the Bible.
Please
use me for Your glory.
In
Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.”
