CALEB - Caleb was 85 years old when he asked Joshua for the hill country that God had promised. So why do we think that we can’t start anything new, or learn anything new after a certain age? Where are you at today? Do you feel like you are stuck and there is nothing new out there for you to do for the Lord?

CALEB
GIVE ME THIS MOUNTAIN

Doris Beck
“I am still as strong today as I was in the day Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so my strength is now, for war and for going out and coming in. Now then, give me this hill country about which the Lord spoke on that day…” (Joshua 14:11,12a)
Caleb was 85 years old when he asked Joshua for the hill country that God had promised.
So why do we think that we can’t start anything new, or learn anything new after a certain age?
Maybe you have even told someone that you are too old to help out in an area.
Maybe it’s because I hit one of those decade markers this past year – you know, the ones that end in zero – that I have been thinking about this more than usual.
Or perhaps it is because I have started a new ministry role and am on a steep learning curve that I have wondered what I was thinking when I said yes to changing responsibilities at this late stage of the game.
I have been encouraged by the example of Caleb who was still asking for enlarged borders and responsibilities at the age of 85.
When we moved into our new neighborhood two years ago after decades in a different area, it was our 90-something neighbors that first invited us over for coffee. They didn’t wait for someone else to invite us first.
Where are you at today? Do you feel like you are stuck and there is nothing new out there for you to do for the Lord?
Or are you always asking Him for wisdom and guidance to see the opportunities before you, those places that are there for you to explore?
Are there needs in your church or your neighborhood that you could uniquely meet regardless of your age?
Heavenly Father, thank you that in your scheme of things I am never too old for you to use me. Help me to see when to step out in faith and ask for that mountain that you have set before me. May I never give up running the race with endurance that you have set before me. Amen.”
Take Action
What mountain is there that you need to claim?
Is there a need that you have been afraid to explore because you are too old, or don’t know how to do it?
Ask God today for the courage to step out in faith and move forward.
God never calls us to do something for Him that He does not empower us to do if we are willing to do the work and time. Take the time to get to know God in an intimate way.
Your purpose on earth is to shine God’s love to a lost and dying world.
Open your ears and your heart to the Lord and be excited about your new future serving Him in spirit and truth.
God has made it possible for you to know Him and experience an amazing change in your own life.
Serve Him.
Wait on Him.
And expect … for He is able to do much much more than you can ask or imagine.
Settle that sin issue ...
“Father God, I confess I am a sinner and my sins have separated me from You.

I am truly sorry. I now want to turn away from my past sinful life and live a new life pleasing to You.

Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again.

I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer.

I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Thank You that according to Your Word, I am now born again.

Please send Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. I promise to study Your Word – the Bible.

Use me for Your glory.

In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.”

lyrics

Verse:

This is the time
When true worshipers will worship
These are the days
When my Father's ways will be known to men
This is the hour
When the Spirit's power will move again

As we worship You in spirit and in truth
Lord we worship You in spirit and in truth
Lord we worship You in spirit and in truth

Chorus:
Holy, Holy, Holy is Your name
Worthy, worthy, let all the earth proclaim
Mighty, mighty, there is no God like You
And we worship You in spirit and in truth
