Living in the modern world today almost requires one to be connected to technology.

Most people own one, two or more gadgets ranging from mobile phones, tablets, computers and the likes.

Laptop computers surely make computer access more personal and convenient, however, alongside this convenience comes some unwanted effects.

Laptop computers radiate heat during use, and this could have some negative effects in a man's body, depending on how it is used.

Studies show that heat radiation and other forms of radiation emitted from a laptop placed on the laps while in use could affect male fertility negatively by decreasing sperm production.

The heat raises the temperature of the scrotum, thereby interfering with the actual process of sperm formation.

High scrotal temperatures also have the potential to damage the DNA of sperm, causing the formation of defective or non-viable sperms.

Furthermore, when sperms are exposed to heat, their motility and ability to swim towards the egg are reduced. A combination of these would lead to reduced fertility in males.

The ideal temperature at which sperm production takes place is 34.5°C.

Because this process needs to occur at a temperature below the core body temperature, the testicles hang outside the body in a sac-like pouch called the scrotum.

Although it is called a laptop, ironically, it is advised to keep it away from the body while it is in use.

In fact, manufacturers do add a cautionary note on the products.

This is to avoid having direct contact with the different types of radiations which are emitted from the device.
